I almost forgot to mention this. If you look at the previous page of my tour, this used to be in the fountain area. |
To the right, the soda fountain is open. |
![]() The tv sets here all work and the Seeburg '59 juke too. I took this pic when I first visited Sled Works in October, 2004 on a weekday, so the fountain was closed.
|
![]() It's almost 5 pm, closing time. Leaving the arcade, you pass the original staircase from the days when Sled Works was an actual sled factory. |
![]() A view from the top of the stairs. |
Another shot of the sled factory museum. |
![]() An actual switchboard operator station, pre Windows. According to Jimmy, it came from "The Telephone Pioneers of America" museum in Harrisburg at least 10 years ago. Lot of cool old phone stuff was sold at auction that day. |
Jimmy's office across the street has a few rare collectibles that stay in the office, except maybe for The York Show, Hershey Expo, or Allentown. This is Carom, just like Sled Work's company, Carrom, spelled with two r's. |
This is a payout pin. The nickels accumulate on a belt. |
The drawer containing the payout mechanism slides out. |
This cabinet is larger than other electromechanical pins from this era. I used to own two Bally Zephyr 1937 pins and the cabinets were only about half the depth of this pin. |
Some info on this pin. |
Here's something you don't see everyday. A bulb and a lens act as a projector to magnify the number scored onto the screen. |
The payout drawer.

I took this pic in April, 2005, coming back from Sled Works around 5:30, in the town of Duncannon. As you can see, the railroad runs along Duncannon and the river. You can actually see the trains right across the street from Sled Works in the parking lot. |
It's a nice town, very scenic, especially in spring and fall. There's pizza parlors and small restaurants on the way to and from Sled Works. |
Getting closer to 83 North, heading to York, I found this abandoned diner. |
|
I walked up to the front entrance, peeked through the front door and found the gumball machines still there. Probably some ripe gum in there. |
|
The pay phone is still there. Time to head home. |
